This blog is a running journal of random thoughts, daily experiences, some potentially useless information, interests, beliefs, causes, dreams and goals... so that we may share in the art of knowing... despite the vast differences in our geographic locations... in an effort to remain close and involved in each others distinctly unique lives.

Trick or Treat

Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog...
Double, double toil and trouble,
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Bobby and Patrick - Halloween 1993

My favorite Halloween was in 1993. The boys had just finished Trick or Treating and we were on our way home. It was late, the streets were empty and the porch lights on the nearby houses were already turned off. As we were walking through the empty neighborhood, near Wright Street in Jackson, out of the distance, walking slowly down the center of this residential street, Frankenstein appeared! It was like something out of a movie.

He was at least 6'8" with his huge platform boots and the most realistic Frankenstein one could even imagine. He scared me and I was the "adult"! The night was so quite and still. There was a dense fog rolling across the street just barely dimming the street lights.

Frankenstein slowly approached, dragging his legs, without saying a word. All you could hear was the dragging and clunking noise from his boots.

As he neared us the boys stood speechless as they clung to me. This exceptionally realistic Frankenstein did not even look at us as he passed by. He walked so close we could hear him breathing and he remained so focused it was amazingly spooky. He continued down the street as we watched him continue on his journey. When he reached the intersection he turned the corner without hesitation and vanished into the darkness.

We were later told by the area residents that this particular Frankenstein takes his annual walk every Halloween. We will never forget it.
